This exhibition is the premiere of my recent project of new painting series “Unity of Symbols and Sacred Words” which reflects the interconnectedness of belief in our collective cultural memory of origination of stories and use of script in conveying spiritual teachings. These new works are an artistic endeavor to help audiences understand the threads of commonality and distinctions, across cultural, national and religious lines. I was fortunate to have received for the second time the individual artist fund award from the East Bay Community Foundation and private donor-support for this project.
I have partnered with The Chaplaincy Institute, an Interfaith Seminary and Community based in Berkeley, California as we both believe in a spirit of harmonious living among peoples and respect for the diversity of all creation.Salma Arastu

My calligraphic work attempts to celebrate the same message of universality spread through verses in Arabic calligraphy and in the poetry of Rumi. Read More
