Food and water are essential resources for all. Unfortunately, not everywhere in the world do people have access to fresh and clean water.

This painting was inspired from Salma’s childhood memories. In rural India, women wake up early in the morning, walk miles to go and get in line at the public water source, a municipal water tap or the village well to get clean water for their families. Each woman carries the water jars for her family.

Looking closely we see the details drawn with fine tip pen. A sense of tenacity in dealing with the harsh reality is expressed by the women and their empty pots.
